Google Maps to Integrate Gemini AI for Enhanced Navigation and Food Delivery Features
Google Maps Expands into Food Ordering with Gemini-Powered Feature
Google is reportedly developing a Gemini-powered food ordering feature for Google Maps, allowing users to search for meals using natural language and place orders directly through the app. The feature has been spotted in the latest Android beta version of Google Maps, but Google has not officially announced a launch date.
The upcoming feature builds on Ask Maps, Google's conversational search tool introduced earlier this year. Powered by Gemini, Ask Maps already allows users to ask detailed questions such as where to find family-friendly restaurants, quiet cafes, or late-night dining options. The new discovery suggests Google wants to take the next step by letting the AI complete the ordering process as well.
The feature was uncovered during an APK teardown of Google Maps version 26.27.00.941319029 for Android. Developers found code strings reading "Ask Maps to order food" along with prompts such as "Say what you're craving" and "Maps will order for you, even while you're on the go." APK teardowns reveal features being tested inside app code, although they do not guarantee a public release.
