Reflections on America's 250th Anniversary: A Fresh Perspective
The Unfinished Story of America's 250 Years
As the world's most powerful republic celebrates its 250th birthday, millions of Indians will watch with a certain affection. Despite knowing America's faults and often distrusting its establishment, we remain drawn to the American dream. This fascination is not surprising, given that Indians have played a significant role in building modern America through their engineers, managers, and coders.
A Personal Connection
My connection to America's story began long before I lived there. My daughter was born on the Fourth of July, America's Independence Day. Her birth was a result of a Caesarean section, and our doctor, who also happened to be her maternal grandmother, gave us three dates to choose from. We picked 4 July, joking that wherever she went in life, no one would ever forget her birthday. Life has an odd sense of humour, and today she lives in the United States, the land of the free.
