IIT Bombay Graduate Turns Down $2.7 Million US Job for Unconventional Career Path
Viral Social Media Post Under Scrutiny Over Alleged IIT Bombay Graduate's Story
A social media post claiming that an IIT Bombay graduate turned down a multi-crore job in the United States to run a small grocery store in India is facing intense scrutiny. The post, shared by X user Vikas Alwys, narrates the story of Vivek Sharma, a gold medal-winning computer science graduate from IIT Bombay who allegedly walked away from a $240,000-a-year job offer in the US to care for his ailing parents.
According to the post, Sharma came from a modest family in Kanpur and secured a lucrative overseas offer during his final year at IIT Bombay. However, he decided against pursuing it after his father suffered a heart attack and his mother was diagnosed with cancer. The post claims that his parents made significant sacrifices to support his education, including using up their savings and selling jewellery.
