Hyderabad Commuter Faces Two-Hour Ordeal in Rain-Induced Traffic on 5km Stretch
Heavy Rainfall Brings Hyderabad to a Standstill
A day after heavy rainfall battered Hyderabad, residents continue to share harrowing accounts of motorists stuck in traffic for hours. One such incident has left a resident claiming it took him two hours and 20 minutes to travel just 5 kilometers, highlighting the scale of traffic disruption after heavy rainfall flooded key stretches across the city.
The incident comes after an intense spell of rain on Tuesday that lasted under an hour but was enough to paralyse large parts of Hyderabad, especially the IT corridor. Key hubs such as Gachibowli, Madhapur, Hitec City, Kondapur, and the Financial District were among the worst affected, with roads submerged and traffic reduced to a crawl during peak office hours.
Waterlogging at bottlenecks, including flyovers and junctions near IKEA and major tech parks, led to bumper-to-bumper traffic stretching for kilometres, leaving thousands stranded for hours. The city received up to 9-15 cm of rainfall within about an hour, overwhelming drainage systems and catchment areas.
