Indian Benchmark Indices End Lower Amid Volatility
The Indian benchmark indices, Nifty 50 and Sensex, closed lower on Thursday in a highly volatile session, with the Nifty 50 falling below the 23,200 mark. The market opened on a subdued note, weighed down by weak global cues, including a sharp rise in US inflation and renewed escalation in the Middle East conflict.

The market staged a strong intraday recovery, briefly climbing above 23,300, supported by buying in select heavyweight stocks. However, the momentum failed to sustain in the second half, with renewed selling pressure erasing most of the gains. At close, the Sensex was down 150.63 points or 0.20 percent at 73,832.55, and the Nifty was down 53.35 points or 0.23 percent at 23,161.60.

The Indian rupee ended sharply lower, depreciating 48 paise to close at 95.75 per dollar on Thursday, compared with its previous close of 95.27.

52-Week Lows
More than 80 stocks touched their 52-week low on the BSE, including HCL Tech, LTM, Zensar Tech, EID Parry, Rail Vikas Nigam, Dalmia Bharat, Kalyan Jeweller, Swiggy, HDFC Life, eClerx Services, Wipro, SBI Life Insurance, TCS, ICICI Prudential, P and G, Reliance Industries, Jyothy Labs, Bharti Hexacom, and others.
Individual Stock Performance
Shares of Zee Entertainment Enterprises gained 8% on a Rs 2,300 crore fund-raising plan, while Vascon Engineers rose 4% after receiving a Letter of Intent (LoI) worth Rs 347.43 crore. GNG Electronics advanced 7% after nearly 3.94% equity changed hands through three block deals. PPAP Automotive surged 20% after entering into a partnership agreement with Hutchinson, and Unicommerce Esolutions shares added 6% on a partnership with Opptra.
Market Outlook
According to Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities, the benchmark indices witnessed a range-bound trading session, with the Nifty ending 53 points lower and the Sensex down by 150 points. The Media Index outperformed, rallying 2.15 percent, while the Defence Index lost the most, shedding 2 percent.
Technical Analysis
Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities, noted that the benchmark index Nifty opened with a downside gap but found support near the 61.8% Fibonacci retracement level of its previous up move, leading to a gradual recovery. The index continues to trade below its key moving averages, which are trending downward, and the daily RSI is below the 40 mark and remains in a declining mode, reflecting underlying weakness.
Support and Resistance Zones
The zone of 23,050-23,000 is expected to act as a crucial support for the index, while the immediate resistance is placed in the 23,300-23,330 zone.
Investors should be cautious in the short term due to volatile trading and weak global cues.
