Train Fire Breaks Out on Thiruvananthapuram-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express
A fire broke out on the Thiruvananthapuram-Hazrat Nizamuddin Rajdhani Express early Sunday while the train was passing through Madhya Pradesh's Ratlam district. The incident occurred around 5:30 am in the B-1 coach of Train No. 12431 between Luni Richha and Vikramgarh Alot stations under the Kota Division of West Central Railway. There were 68 passengers inside the compartment when smoke and flames were noticed.
According to officials, the train guard first spotted the fire and immediately alerted the loco pilot, after which the train was brought to a halt and evacuation measures were initiated. As a precaution, the overhead electric supply was shut down and the affected coach was separated from the rest of the train to stop the blaze from spreading further.
Personnel from the Railway Protection Force, along with railway staff onboard, began evacuating passengers soon after the incident was reported. Officials said the entire coach was emptied in nearly 15 minutes. All passengers of the affected coach were safely deboarded, and no injury or casualty to any passenger or railway staff occurred.
Rescue and relief teams from the railway division were rushed to the spot following the incident. The fire also disrupted train operations on the busy Delhi-Mumbai route for close to two hours as authorities conducted rescue work and inspected the affected section. Officials said the exact reason behind the fire is still unknown and an investigation has been launched to determine what triggered the blaze.
