In his first speech after being sworn in as the newly elected Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, C Joseph Vijay outlined his vision for the state, emphasizing a "new beginning" and era of "real, secular and social justice." Addressing a massive gathering at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, Vijay stressed that his government would prioritize the welfare of the people and ensure that he "repay the debt" of those who have supported him.

Vijay's speech was notable for its emphasis on transparency and accountability, with the Chief Minister announcing that his government would release a white paper on Tamil Nadu's finances covering the 2021-2026 period. This move is seen as an attempt to provide clarity on the state's financial situation and to hold previous governments accountable for their actions.

The newly elected Chief Minister also outlined several key initiatives, including the establishment of a special force called 'Singapen' for women's safety and an anti-drug task force. In a move aimed at addressing the state's financial crisis, Vijay accused the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government of leaving behind a debt of Rs 10 lakh crore and emptying the treasury. He emphasized that his government would prioritize transparency and would not hide its actions from the public.

Vijay's speech was notable for its emotional tone, with the Chief Minister expressing his gratitude to the people for supporting him and acknowledging the hardships and humiliations he faced during his journey into politics. He emphasized that he is an ordinary human being, living a normal life, and would not deceive people with false promises.

The actor-turned-politician has been compared to former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran, known for his charisma and crowd-pulling ability. Vijay's victory in the 2026 elections, winning two seats, Perambur and Trichy East, has set him on a path to become a prominent figure in Tamil Nadu politics.
