Perplexity AI Launches Computer Platform to Automate Business Tasks

Perplexity AI, a San Francisco-based company founded in 2022, has launched a new artificial intelligence platform called Computer. The platform, led by chief executive Aravind Srinivas, aims to help users build and run businesses by combining AI models, software tools, and automated workflows.

Computer expands Perplexity's vision beyond AI search into task execution and business automation. The platform acts as an orchestration layer that can coordinate numerous AI systems and software services to complete multi-step tasks. According to Srinivas, the platform brings together more than 20 AI models and determines which model is best suited for a particular task.

The system can handle activities ranging from research and coding to writing, analysis, and workflow management within a single environment. Industry reports indicate that Computer was launched in February 2026 and is currently available through Perplexity's premium Max subscription tier. The service runs in the cloud and is designed to automate complex workflows that would normally require several separate applications and human oversight.

Srinivas has described the technology as a step toward a future in which AI systems function less like standalone chatbots and more like a coordinated digital workforce. Supporters argue that such systems could help entrepreneurs launch products, conduct market research, manage operations, and build software with fewer resources than previously required.

The announcement comes amid intense competition in the AI sector, where companies are racing to develop so-called AI agents capable of carrying out actions rather than simply generating text. Perplexity has recently expanded its offerings with products such as the Comet AI browser, reflecting its ambition to compete more directly with larger technology firms.

While experts say AI automation tools are becoming increasingly powerful, many note that human supervision remains essential, particularly for financial, legal, and strategic decisions. Even so, Perplexity's latest launch highlights how rapidly AI is moving from information retrieval toward business execution, a shift that could reshape how companies are created and operated in the years ahead.
