Apple's Tim Cook Says He's Healthy and Plans to Remain Executive Chairman
Apple Inc.'s Tim Cook, who will step down as chief executive officer later this year, told employees on Tuesday that he is "healthy" and plans to serve as executive chairman for a long time. Cook made the comments in an all-hands meeting with staff, following the announcement that he will pass the reins to hardware chief John Ternus on September 1.
The meeting, held in the Steve Jobs Theater at the company's headquarters, covered various topics, including artificial intelligence, product plans, and design. Cook, 65, expressed his enthusiasm for continuing his journey at Apple as executive chairman, stating that his energy is high and he plans to be in this new role for a long time.
Cook's remarks suggest that he is trying to address speculation over why he is relinquishing the role. Although Ternus has been seen as the heir apparent for years, Cook had not previously suggested that he was close to retiring as CEO.
