Vodafone Idea Shares Rise Amid Debt Funding Package Plans and Expansion Plans
Vodafone Idea shares have seen a significant surge over the last four trading sessions, with the stock gaining nearly 45 percent in the past one month. The stock rose 0.66 percent on Friday to settle at Rs 13.71 per share on the NSE. The rally began on May 19, when the stock climbed more than 5 percent, and has since gained 6.67 percent.
The rise in the stock is attributed to comments from the company's CEO, Abhijit Kishore, who stated that the telecom operator is "deeply engaged" with an SBI-led consortium of banks for its proposed Rs 35,000-crore debt funding package. This package comprises a funded facility of Rs 25,000 crore and a non-funded facility of Rs 10,000 crore, aimed at supporting the company's network expansion and capital expenditure plans over the next three years.
During the company's fourth-quarter earnings call, Kishore expressed confidence that the company would be able to meet its financial obligations over the next three years through a combination of higher EBITDA, debt funding, promoter infusion, and tax refunds. The company plans to step up investments to rebuild its brand image after years of uncertainty linked to AGR dues and financial stress.
| Quarter | Revenue (Rs crore) | EBITDA (Rs crore) |
|---|---|---|
| March 2026 | 11,332 | 4,890 |
| March 2025 | 11,032 | 4,645 |
The company reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 51,970 crore for the March quarter, compared with a loss of Rs 7,166 crore in the year-ago period, aided by a one-time accounting gain related to reassessment of adjusted gross revenue dues and recognition of the present value of future payments. Excluding the exceptional item, the company reported revenue of Rs 11,332 crore for the quarter, up 2.9 percent year-on-year, while EBITDA rose 4.9 percent to Rs 4,890 crore.
Additionally, the company reported positive monthly subscriber additions from February 2026, supported by expansion of its 4G network and wider rollout of 5G services. Vodafone Idea has also signed agreements to acquire a 26 percent stake in renewable energy special purpose vehicle MTK Quantum Green Energy Pvt Ltd as part of efforts to secure cost-effective green power for its operations. The company is expanding its 5G network across West Bengal, with rollout planned in seven more cities by June, focusing on industrial hubs, high data consumption centres, and emerging urban clusters.
