US High-Income Households Spend Up to $30,800 Per Year on Dog Care Services
Record Salaries for Professional Dog Nannies in the US
The demand for professional dog nannies in the United States has reached an all-time high, with some full-time caregivers earning a staggering USD2,500 or nearly Rs 2.4 lakh a week. This surge in demand is largely attributed to the growing trend of affluent households spending more on animal care and round-the-clock support.
According to a recent report by The Times, Philadelphia-based agency Household Staffing has seen demand for dog nannies almost triple in recent years. Agencies say many employers now expect caregivers to walk dogs, manage feeding schedules, arrange grooming appointments, administer medicines, and travel with pets on private holidays. Experienced dog nannies in the US are reportedly earning between USD40 and USD50 an hour, while live-in staff can make between USD500 and USD800 a day.
In some cases, employers also provide accommodation, meals, health insurance, and paid travel. A British family had earlier advertised a live-in dog nanny role with an annual salary of GBP100,000, or more than Rs 1.3 crore. This rise reflects a broader boom in the luxury domestic staffing industry, with agencies in the US and UK reporting a significant increase in demand for multi-skilled staff who can handle childcare, household management, and pet care together.
| Agency | Demand Increase |
|---|---|
| Household Staffing | Almost tripled |
| Other Agencies | Significant increase |
The pet care sector itself has expanded rapidly, with market studies estimating that North America accounts for nearly 200,000 jobs in pet sitting and related services. Industry data also shows that experienced and certified pet sitters can earn significantly more than entry-level workers, especially in large cities where pet ownership and living costs are high.
Recruiters say the pandemic permanently changed how people treat pets. Many owners who began working from home developed stronger emotional bonds with their animals and now consider professional pet care an essential service rather than a luxury. The trend is also spreading beyond the US, with agencies in Britain reporting rising salaries for nannies, governesses, and domestic staff as wealthy households compete for experienced workers.
