TCS Sexual Harassment Case: Police Custody of Accused Extended
The Nashik district court has extended the police custody of two accused, Raza Memon and Shafi Shaikh, in the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) sexual harassment case until April 18. This gives the Special Investigation Team (SIT) more time to examine their mobile phones for evidence related to the alleged mental and sexual harassment reported by complainants.
While Shaikh's phone is already in police custody, Memon's will be confiscated soon to check for any evidence. Sources informed Moneycontrol that Shaikh was physically assaulted by inmates during his Nashik jail custody. The court hearing took place in-camera on April 16.
In addition to Memon and Shaikh, accused Ashwini Chainani was transferred to judicial custody until April 28. The SIT team has reserved the right to keep Chainani in police custody for 10 days until May 19, as required for investigation. Chainani was arrested on charges of not taking action after the sexual harassment complaints raised by subordinates.

Public prosecutor Kiran Bendbhar representing the complainants stated that Memon and Shaikh's police custody has been extended for the third time on different CRs (copy of remand or complaints). Shaikh currently has four CRs, and Memon has three. The complainants are urging more victims within the organisation to speak up, and more victims are expected to lodge FIRs (First Information Report) soon.
| Accused | Number of CRs | Police Custody Extension |
|---|---|---|
| Raza Memon | 3 | Till April 18 |
| Shafi Shaikh | 4 | Till April 18 |
| Ashwini Chainani | N/A | Till April 28 (with option for 10-day police custody) |
Further hearing for accused Asif Ansari, Shah Rukh Qureshi, Tausif Attar, and Danish Sheikh is pending, who were ordered to be in police custody until April 15.
In response to the ongoing case, TCS has asked its employees at the Nashik branch to work from home, following an attempt by a local political party to vandalise the office premises on Monday. A rally led by Nashik BJP MLA Devyani Pharande protested against the accused on April 16, starting from the TCS office gate and rallying till Nashik Collector's office.

The case first came to light in March when a woman working at TCS' Nashik BPO unit filed a complaint alleging that a colleague had maintained a physical relationship with her by promising marriage. During the investigation, police registered eight more FIRs related to mental and sexual harassment faced between 2022 and 2026, along with inaction by senior managers. There were also allegations of attempting religious conversion by a few complainants.
The action was taken based on intelligence inputs received by the Nashik Police Commissioner's office. Nashik police had deployed some of its constables to go undercover to gather information and work as TCS employees between February and March 2025.
The case is currently under investigation by a special investigation team (SIT) led by Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Mitke.
Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran has ordered a thorough probe, calling the allegations emerging from the Nashik unit "gravely concerning and anguishing." He has appointed TCS COO Aarthi Subramanian to lead the investigation into these complaints.
