Postal Department Registers Historic Revenue Growth of ₹15,296 Crore in FY26
The Department of Post has achieved a significant milestone in its revenue growth, registering an annual revenue of ₹15,296 crore for the fiscal year 2026 (FY26), a 16% year-on-year increase. This was announced by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on 20 April, as reported by PTI.
The historic revenue growth is attributed to the department's focus on deepening its reach and acquiring new customers, with the adoption of six sigma service level agreements. Scindia expressed confidence in the department's ability to achieve higher growth in the next fiscal year (FY27). The minister highlighted the launch of three new products and the department's efforts to increase the penetration of its services, acquire new customers, and enhance its service delivery standards.
Revenue Growth Across Verticals

The revenue growth across various verticals is a significant indicator of the department's performance. Notably, parcels grew to ₹1,133 crore in FY26, marking a 69% increase over the previous fiscal, driven by strong growth in Gujarat, Jharkhand, and Telangana. The mail vertical also recorded significant growth, increasing from ₹2,396 crore in FY 24-25 to ₹3,202 crore in FY26, a 34% growth rate driven by growth in Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, and Rajasthan.

Expenditure and Deficit
The department's expenditure, excluding pensions, stood at ₹26,559 crore in FY26, while its revenue receipts were ₹15,296 crore, resulting in a deficit of approximately ₹11,000 crore. This represents a narrowing of the gap between expenditure and revenue by ₹1,500 crore compared to the previous fiscal. The department aims to bridge this gap fully over the next five years.

Expansion of Network
The Department has made significant strides in expanding its network, with the addition of 11,000 post offices in rural areas over the last four years. This has taken the total network of post offices to 1,64,999, with a large increase in the North Eastern region.
