Post Office Introduces Personalised Cheque Book Option for Savings Account Holders
Department of Posts Introduces Personalised Cheque Book Facility for Post Office Savings Account Holders
The Department of Posts has introduced a new facility for its post office savings account holders, allowing them to obtain cheque books with their names printed on them at no additional cost. This move is aimed at enhancing security, improving convenience, and aligning post office banking services more closely with those of commercial banks.
The introduction of personalised cheque books (PCBs) is a significant development for post office savings account holders. Earlier, cheque books did not include customer-specific details. With this new facility, customers will now receive cheque books carrying pre-printed account information, making transactions more secure and professional.
To be eligible for a personalised cheque book, customers must meet certain conditions. These include linking their mobile number to the primary account holder's CIF, maintaining a minimum balance of Rs 500, paying cheque issuance charges of Rs 20, and applicable GST, and ensuring that the account is not frozen or dormant. Additionally, the request for a personalised cheque book can only be initiated at the account where the savings account is maintained.
Post office savings account holders have the option to choose between an instant cheque book and a personalised cheque book. The instant cheque book facility will continue to be available at post office counters, while personalised cheque books will be delivered free of cost to the holder's address.
To apply for a free personalised cheque book, customers can visit their nearest post office branch in the first phase. The Department of Posts has also announced that the facility will soon be extended to internet banking and mobile banking platforms, allowing customers to place requests online for added convenience. It is essential for customers to ensure that their registered address is updated in the post office records, as the personalised cheque books will be dispatched to the latest address available in the system.
