Career Path Debunked: Pakistani Woman Working at Tesla Reveals GPA Not a Determining Factor
A recent viral video has sparked a renewed debate about the importance of grades in determining one's future career prospects. The video features a Pakistani woman, Samareen Kapadia, who is currently working as an Associate Instructional Designer at Tesla in Amsterdam. Kapadia's story has caught attention online as it challenges the common belief that only top marks and technical degrees lead to big opportunities.
Kapadia appeared in an Instagram video shared by Mansoor Khan, where she spoke about her career path and offered guidance to others hoping to work in the Netherlands. The video was shared with the caption, “Most cool jobs these days are for techies. But not all. So how do you land jobs in tech companies with non-tech educational backgrounds? Hear it from Samareen.”
Kapadia revealed that she works at Tesla Amsterdam, and her salary range is between €50,000 to €70,000 per year (approximately Rs 55 lakh to Rs 77 lakh). The hiring process involved several stages, including a screening call, an interview with her manager, a case study, and then another interview where she presented the case study to the team, before finally having an interview with HR.

When asked about her educational background, Kapadia said she studied Psychology before completing a Research Masters in Social and Behavioural Sciences. She was then asked how that related to her current role, and she explained that while it's not entirely related, there is some importance of psychology in training and learning development. However, she also mentioned that she did complete a bunch of certifications via Udemy on the side.
Kapadia emphasized that GPA did not matter at all in her experience, which contradicts the common perception that grades are a determining factor in career opportunities. She also shared advice for those struggling to find work, suggesting a more focused approach. "It's pretty cliche but go for quality over quantity," she explained. "Apply to 10 places, but really streamline your resume, your cover letter, and all of that. Make sure you build some networks and connections with the people within that company instead of applying for a thousand jobs."
The clip soon drew many reactions, with some commenting that her advice was helpful and others stating that getting jobs is different for every person.
