From Rs 30,000 to Rs 2 Lakh a Month: The Inspiring Story of a Mumbai-Based Entrepreneur

A Mumbai-based engineer has gone viral after revealing his journey from a Rs 30,000-a-month job to building a small cab business that now earns him nearly Rs 2 lakh monthly. The story surfaced through a video posted by Bengaluru-based Canadian digital creator Caleb Friesen, who documented his conversation with the driver during a cab ride in Mumbai.

The driver's conversation with Friesen provides a candid look at his decision to walk away from a conventional engineering career. Despite investing in an engineering degree, the driver found himself earning only Rs 30,000 a month, which he deemed insufficient. This dissatisfaction drove him to start his own business, which has now grown from one car to four.

The driver's decision to start his own business was not taken lightly. He acknowledged that it was "very hard in the beginning," but he persevered, recognizing that taking risks is essential for financial independence. He pointed out that after 60, no one will give you a job, emphasizing the importance of building one's own business.

The driver's business operates on a hybrid ownership-and-sharing model, where each driver earns Rs 5,000 per day and gives him Rs 2,000 after deducting CNG expenses. This structure allows him to generate around Rs 2 lakh per month. The costs of running the business include Rs 30,000 towards EMIs on vehicles purchased on loan.

Despite the expenses, the business offers a significantly higher income than his previous job, while giving him control over his work. The driver's story highlights a broader shift in how many Indians are approaching work and ambition, with a growing number of people starting their own businesses and building their own dreams.

Friesen, the creator of the video, noted that the interaction reflects the need for more founders and entrepreneurs in India. He believes that India needs more people starting businesses and building their own dreams instead of building someone else's.
