Monkey Causes Chaos in Uttar Pradesh, Spews Rs 2 Lakh in Cash After Snatching Bag
Monkey Creates Chaos at Uttar Pradesh District Court Complex
A bizarre incident unfolded outside the district court complex in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh on May 31, leaving onlookers stunned and social media abuzz. A monkey snatched a bag containing approximately ₹2 lakh, scattering the cash from atop a nearby neem tree.
The incident occurred when a man arrived at the court premises to complete formalities related to a property registration and purchase stamp papers. The monkey suddenly grabbed the bag and climbed the tree before anyone could react. Perched on a branch, it tore open the bag and began tossing Rs 500 notes into the air, creating a surreal "money rain".
Videos of the episode show currency notes fluttering down as a crowd gathered beneath the tree, with several people attempting to collect the scattered cash. The unexpected spectacle turned a routine day at the court into a frenzy, with lawyers, litigants, and passersby rushing towards the spot.

After considerable effort, most of the money was recovered with the help of those present and local authorities, although small amounts were reportedly damaged or went missing. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The monkey menace is a familiar problem in the area, with previous incidents involving the snatching of food, phones, and belongings. However, the scale and nature of this episode, involving large amounts of cash, made it stand out and quickly turned it into a viral story across platforms.
The incident triggered a wave of reactions online, with users blending humour and commentary. Some framed the incident as a reflection of financial trends, while others drew sharper, if tongue-in-cheek, interpretations. A third widely shared quip distilled the absurdity into a punchline: "Money does grow on trees."
| Time | Number of Rs 500 Notes | Total Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Before the incident | Unknown | ₹2 lakh |
| After the incident | Approximately 400 | ₹2 lakh (most of it recovered) |
