Safety Incident on Domestic Flight Highlights Concerns

A mid-air incident on a routine domestic flight has drawn attention after a passenger allegedly tried to open an emergency exit door during the journey. The situation was brought under control by the crew, but not before causing concern among passengers.

The incident occurred on IndiGo flight 6E-185, which was travelling from Bengaluru to Varanasi on the evening of an unspecified date. The aircraft took off at around 8:15 pm with several passengers on board, including Mohammad Adnan from Mau district in Uttar Pradesh.

According to reports, around 15 minutes after take-off, Adnan allegedly tried to handle the emergency exit door. The cabin crew quickly noticed the movement and stepped in. When questioned, he reportedly said it was a mistake. He was warned and asked not to repeat such behaviour. For some time after this, he remained calm and did not cause any further concern.

However, the situation changed again shortly before landing. As per reports, at around 10:20 pm, Adnan allegedly made another attempt to open the emergency exit door. At that point, the aircraft was about 500 feet above the ground and preparing to land at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport.

The crew immediately informed the pilot. In response, the pilot decided to abort the landing as a safety measure. The aircraft carried out a go-around and stayed in the air briefly before making a safe landing at around 10:35 pm.

After landing, Adnan was taken into custody as per procedure. He was handed over to the airline's security staff and the CISF. The police were then informed, and a case was registered against him.

During initial questioning at the airport, Adnan said he did not know why he had acted in that manner. Later, he claimed he was "possessed by a ghost". During further questioning at the police station, he said he was returning from a holiday in Goa and did not realise that the handle he pulled was connected to the emergency exit door.
