Mamaearth Co-Founder Ghazal Alagh Shares Expertise on Leveraging Artificial Intelligence

Ghazal Alagh, co-founder of Mamaearth, a leading brand in the Indian consumer goods market, recently took to social media to share her insights on utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) in a team setting. In a recent LinkedIn post, Alagh, 37, highlighted the importance of developing critical thinking skills and clarity about AI's benefits in leadership roles.

Alagh emphasized the need for team leaders to shift their focus from selecting the right tools to developing the necessary skills to effectively leverage AI. She observed that many leaders are asking the wrong question about AI, instead of inquiring which tools their team should use, they should be asking what kind of skills their team needs now. According to Alagh, the tools will continue to evolve, but it is essential to understand the shift that AI demands from leaders.

Alagh noted that individuals who excel in this AI era are self-motivated learners who are eager to experiment with their thinking. She shared her experience from working with teams at Honasa Consumer, stating that the people who are achieving success are clear on what a good output looks like, and AI helps deliver that output faster.

To effectively leverage AI, Alagh suggested that team leaders should not simply run AI workshops but teach people how to think and adopt. This approach will help teams build a stronger sense of their craft, including what they stand for, what they are trying to create, what quality means in their specific role, and how AI can assist them in doing their job better.

Social Media Reactions

Several social media users responded to Alagh's post, sharing their insights and experiences. One user noted that the gap in AI adoption is not about access to the technology but clarity on how to use it. Another user pointed out that the issue goes beyond a skills problem, stating that it is a system problem. A third user highlighted the importance of having a clear, shared understanding of what "good" looks like, defined through a structured competency framework like KASBA.

A fourth user agreed that tools will continue to evolve, but clarity of thinking and outcome focus is what truly differentiates teams. In retail operations, this user noted that those who adapt and experiment with new ways of working always outperform others. AI is not a replacement, but a multiplier for the right mindset.

A fifth user emphasized that AI is a capability amplifier, not a capability creator. Teams that win are not tool-savvy but thinking-savvy, clear on outcomes, and willing to experiment. Leadership's job is to build that mindset, not just run tool trainings.
