Ivy League Graduate's $15,000 Beauty and Fashion Spend Raises Questions About Priorities
Utah Beauty Standards Take a Toll on Local Business Owner
A 50-year-old woman, Hilary Reiter Azzaretti, a PR firm owner and Ivy League graduate, has revealed that she spends $12,000 a year on beauty treatments and clothing. This expense is a result of her need to meet local beauty standards in Utah, where she has relocated from New York.
Azzaretti pointed out that Utah has a slower pace, less diversity, and a more conservative culture. However, one of the biggest challenges she faces is the pressure to maintain a youthful, fresh appearance. In contrast to New York City, Utah places a greater emphasis on appearance, which Azzaretti attributes to the state's beauty-centric culture and the influence of local influencers.
Prior to relocating to Utah, Azzaretti wore minimal makeup and rarely got manicures. However, she had never tried Botox or regular facials. As the face of her public relations agency, Azzaretti felt the pressure to maintain a youthful appearance, which she believes is partly self-induced and partly driven by the visual cues she receives from her work.
To meet these beauty standards, Azzaretti spends close to $2,000 per year on Botox, over $1,500 on nail care, and more than $5,000 on clothes. She also occasionally undergoes anti-aging treatments.
Azzaretti's spending habits may be influenced by the fact that she has not undergone plastic surgery, although she admits that it can feel tempting at times. Despite this, she has not ruled out the possibility of undergoing surgery in the future.

Azzaretti's background in public relations has given her a unique perspective on the importance of appearance in the industry. Her experience as an Ivy League graduate and PR firm owner highlights the challenges of maintaining a youthful appearance in a culture that places a high value on beauty and appearance.
