India's National Security Adviser Travels to Saudi Arabia Amid West Asia Conflict
India's National Security Adviser Ajit Doval traveled to Saudi Arabia over the weekend to assess the regional situation and support India's energy security efforts. According to a Hindustan Times report published on Monday, Doval's visit on Sunday came shortly after external affairs minister S Jaishankar's trip to the United Arab Emirates and petroleum minister Hardeep Singh Puri's visit to Qatar.
These engagements are part of India's outreach to major energy partners as disruptions continue due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. The Strait's closure has significant implications for India's energy security, as the country relies heavily on imports from the region. Saudi Arabia is one of India's three biggest energy suppliers, along with Russia and Iraq.
During the visit, Doval was received at Riyadh airport by Saudi deputy minister for political affairs Saud Al-Sati, who previously served as ambassador to India. Doval met with several high-ranking Saudi officials, including energy minister Abdulaziz bin Salman, foreign minister Faisal bin Farhan, and National Security Adviser Musaed Al-Aiban. The Indian embassy in Riyadh reported on social media that the discussions covered bilateral ties, the regional situation, and other matters of mutual interest.

Saudi Arabia's state-run news agency also reported that foreign minister Faisal bin Farhan and Doval reviewed areas of cooperation and discussed recent regional developments. New Delhi has called for safe and unhindered movement of merchant vessels and a return to dialogue and diplomacy to end the conflict.

|---|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia | 1 | 18% |
| Russia | 2 | 15% |
| Iraq | 3 | 13% |
