A devastating helicopter crash occurred in the United States on Friday, claiming the life of a 26-year-old Indian-origin pilot, Dave Fiji, shortly after his wedding. The tragedy unfolded when the Robinson R66 helicopter, carrying the newlyweds, crashed in a wooded area near Dawsonville, Georgia, shortly after takeoff from the wedding reception.

Dave Fiji, a pilot with Delta Air Lines, had just married his longtime partner, Jessni, in a ceremony attended by nearly 400 guests. The couple was on their way to begin their honeymoon celebrations when the helicopter crashed in a remote part of Dawson County, only a short distance from the wedding venue. Tragically, the pilot operating the aircraft also died in the accident.

The crash has left family members devastated, particularly because it occurred just hours after a celebration attended by nearly 400 guests. Dave's father, George Fiji, recalled seeing his son filled with joy on his wedding day. Dave and Jessni first met nearly a decade ago through their church community and eventually built a relationship that led to marriage.

Jessni was found alive despite suffering multiple injuries. She remained trapped at the crash site for nearly six hours before emergency responders located the wreckage. In a heart-wrenching account, George Fiji said Jessni later told him she regained consciousness to find Dave lying against her. As a nurse, she quickly realized that he had succumbed to his injuries.

Despite the trauma, family members say Jessni is recovering in a hospital in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The tragedy has also raised questions about the flight's conditions. According to his father, Dave, who was an experienced commercial pilot, had expressed concerns about visibility before takeoff. George Fiji claimed that his son warned the helicopter pilot about poor weather and limited visibility, saying such conditions would normally prevent a flight from operating. However, the pilot reportedly assured him that the aircraft would fly at a higher altitude.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an inquiry into the fatal crash, and officials have not yet announced a preliminary cause. Investigators are now working to determine what led to the tragic accident.
