Indian Amazon Employee Achieves High Salary, Struggles with High Living Expenses
Expats in the City: Breaking Down the Reality of High-Paying Jobs Abroad
Dreaming of a high-paying job abroad can be an alluring prospect, but the reality of everyday expenses can be a far cry from the salary figure alone. For many professionals, the experience of working abroad is complex and multifaceted. A recent video shared on Instagram by content creator Umang Chaudhary offers a candid look at the daily life of an Indian engineer working at Amazon in Dublin.
The engineer, who works in Dublin as a software developer engineer at the Amazon office, shares his annual salary of 70,000 to 90,000 euros (approximately Rs 75- 96 lakh). While this may seem like a lucrative package, the engineer's monthly expenses of 3,000 euros (approximately Rs 3.2 lakh) paint a different picture. This figure includes rent, groceries, utilities, transport, and other day-to-day costs, making Dublin one of the more expensive European cities.
Despite the high costs, the engineer emphasizes that saving is still possible with planning. He reports saving 30 to 40 percent of his income in good months, a testament to the importance of disciplined spending. This perspective offers a more nuanced understanding of what it means to live and work abroad, highlighting the need for careful budgeting and financial management.
The conversation also touches on the issue of lifestyle, exploring whether the move is solely about making money or if quality of life is just as significant. In a comparison with Seattle, another major tech hub and home to Amazon's headquarters, the engineer notes that Dublin is a more peaceful city with a great atmosphere. While Seattle has its own charm, the engineer prefers the quieter pace of life in Dublin.
