India Surpasses Global Rivals to Become KitKat's Largest Market
Nestlé's Iconic Chocolate Bar, KitKat, Sees Huge Growth in India
India has emerged as the largest market globally for KitKat, the iconic chocolate-coated wafer bar of Swiss food and confectionery major Nestlé. According to the company, India's strong consumer penetration, product innovation, and aggressive marketing investments have driven the brand's growth.
India has surpassed its previous position as the second-largest market for KitKat, a position it held for the last 2-3 years. This milestone underscores India's growing importance for the iconic chocolate wafer brand, which is sold in over 85 countries worldwide.
Nestlé India's confectionery product group delivered high double-digit growth in both value and volume in FY26, with KitKat contributing significantly to this momentum. The brand's market share growth has accelerated over the last few years, making it the second brand in Nestlé's portfolio, after Maggi, to emerge as the largest market globally.
A Decade of Growth
A decade ago, India was at number 10 globally for KitKat. The brand's performance is attributed to a strong increase in core penetration and entry into new consumer demand spaces, driven by innovations across mainstream and premium segments.
Nestlé India Director Confectionery and Cereals Jagatheesan Gopichandar said that the company's investments in advertising spends, partnerships, and campaigns have helped deepen consumer engagement and strengthen brand relevance. The company's visicooler programme has also contributed to the brand's growth across urban and rural markets.
