
India Introduces E85 Petrol: Potential Impact on Fuel Prices and City-wise Rate Outlook
Petrol and Diesel Prices Remain Stable Across Major Indian Metro Cities on June 8
India marked a significant step in its ethanol blending programme on June 8, with the official launch of E85 fuel, in an effort to mitigate ongoing energy supply chain pressures stemming from the West Asia conflict. Against this backdrop, petrol and diesel prices across major Indian metro cities and state capitals remained largely stable on Monday, with only minor revisions reported in select locations.
Petrol prices were steady in New Delhi and Kolkata at Rs 102.12 and Rs 113.47 per litre, respectively, while Mumbai and Chennai witnessed marginal increases of 3 paise and 4 paise per litre to Rs 111.21 and Rs 107.88 per litre, respectively. Among the tracked cities, Hyderabad continued to record the highest price at Rs 115.72 per litre, followed closely by Thiruvananthapuram at Rs 115.49 per litre.

Jaipur recorded the sharpest increase in petrol prices, with rates rising by 69 paise to Rs 113.35 per litre. Bhubaneswar also saw a 24-paise increase to Rs 109.05 per litre. On the downside, Bangalore registered the steepest decline, with petrol prices falling by 28 paise to Rs 110.61 per litre. Prices also eased in Lucknow, Patna and Gurgaon by 19 paise, 18 paise and 8 paise, respectively. Petrol prices remained unchanged in Noida at Rs 102.12 per litre, Chandigarh at Rs 101.54 per litre, and Thiruvananthapuram at Rs 115.49 per litre.
Diesel prices remained largely stable across the country, with Thiruvananthapuram continuing to have the highest diesel price among the tracked cities at Rs 104.40 per litre, followed by Hyderabad at Rs 103.82 per litre. Among the four metros, diesel prices remained unchanged in New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai at Rs 95.20, Rs 99.82, Rs 97.83, and Rs 99.65 per litre, respectively.

Jaipur once again recorded the sharpest increase, with diesel prices rising by 61 paise to Rs 98.39 per litre. Bhubaneswar saw a 24-paise increase to Rs 100.76 per litre. Bangalore registered the steepest decline, with diesel prices falling by 26 paise to Rs 98.54 per litre. Prices also eased in Lucknow, Patna and Gurgaon by 19 paise, 17 paise and 8 paise, respectively, while diesel prices in Thiruvananthapuram slipped marginally by 1 paisa. Rates remained unchanged in Noida at Rs 95.56 per litre and Chandigarh at Rs 89.47 per litre, reflecting broad stability in fuel prices across key urban centres.
