Google Expands AI Infrastructure Investment in India
Google is exploring investment opportunities in AI infrastructure, including the production of servers and drones, in India, according to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. This announcement follows the groundbreaking of Google's USD 15 billion AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, in April of this year.
The move is part of Google's efforts to expand its presence in India's growing technology sector. The company has already begun production of Pixel smartphones in India in collaboration with electronics manufacturing services firm Foxconn and Dixon. Additionally, in 2023, Google partnered with HP to produce Chromebooks in the country in partnership with electronic manufacturing service Flex near Chennai.
Google's investment in India's AI sector is also reflected in its recent announcement to lay the foundation of its Cloud India AI data centre at Tarluvada in Visakhapatnam. The project is being developed in partnership with Adani ConneX and Airtel Nxtra, and will include a 1 gigawatt (GW) hyperscale AI data centre in Visakhapatnam.
