RemoteStar CEO Naresh Harwani's recent virtual team meeting was interrupted by a surprise from a Gen Z employee, Vartika Bisht. Bisht, a 21-year-old senior business development representative, appeared in the meeting with a towel and face mask, which was a prank planned by the marketing team.

The incident went viral, garnering over 4 lakh views, 1,000 comments, and 5 lakh shares. Bisht later clarified that the prank was a way to showcase the company's positive work environment, which she praised despite being a relatively new employee. Harwani, who has been running RemoteStar for six years, stated that he doesn't mind his employees having fun at work, as long as it doesn't harm productivity.

As a company that specializes in building and managing remote teams, RemoteStar has a predominantly Gen Z workforce, with over 90% of its staff falling into this demographic. Harwani believes that allowing employees to have fun at work helps build better teams and is crucial for his startup. He noted that Gen Z employees are equipped to deal with the ongoing AI disruption and are a cost-effective option for his bootstrapped company.

Harwani's approach to management emphasizes the importance of having a fun workplace while still delivering good results. He has experienced the stress and seriousness of building a startup firsthand and has come to realize that having fun at work can lead to better outcomes.
