Wealth Without Luxuries: Entrepreneur's Unconventional Lifestyle Goes Viral
A recent social media post has sparked a heated debate on how wealth should be spent, with many questioning the notion that financial success must come with a luxurious lifestyle. According to Vinod Chendhil, founder of Naturally Yours, a close friend and entrepreneur has achieved a net worth of Rs 100 crore without compromising on his simple living habits.
The entrepreneur, who wishes to remain anonymous, continues to travel by auto-rickshaw in Mumbai, uses shared taxis when possible, and stays in simple hotels during trips. His friend's unconventional lifestyle has caught the attention of many online, with some praising him for staying practical and grounded, while others question why a wealthy person would choose to live so modestly.
The discussion began after entrepreneur Ravi Handa posted about how rising wealth can often reshape a person's life. Handa stated that he currently lives comfortably with a net worth of around Rs 10 crore, but believes life would likely look very different at Rs 50 crore.
| Net Worth | Lifestyle |
|---|---|
| Rs 10 crore | Lives comfortably |
| Rs 50 crore | Life would look very different |
| Rs 100 crore | Travels by auto-rickshaw, stays in simple hotels |
Chendhil's post, which went viral, revealed that his friend's lifestyle has not changed significantly despite achieving a net worth of Rs 100 crore. The only difference he noted was that his friend has more vacations and free time.
While some users praised the entrepreneur for staying practical and grounded, others questioned why a wealthy person would continue living so modestly. One user commented, "Living such a miserable life! I hope his kids live a better and meaningful life for which money is meant." Chendhil defended his friend's choices, saying he is "very, very happy."
Another user asked, "Why though? What is his reason for this? Isn't money a tool to make your life as easy and peaceful as possible from a personal finance standpoint? Why suffer in share auto if one doesn't need to?" To that, Chendhil replied, "Don't know, personal choice maybe wants to keep it simple."

The conversation then widened into a debate on how money should be spent once financial success is achieved. One user wrote, "Ah, but you should spend money on nice things. Be frugal in your business. Be indulgent in your life - The memories you get out of it are priceless. It took me so long to get my parents to be comfortable with it."
Others pointed out that net worth on paper does not always mean easy access to cash. One user questioned, "Net worth and cash balance are two different things. Most founders have net worth on papers but no cash balance. You have to clear it is net worth on paper or actual cash balance."
