On February 22, Rajesh Meena underwent a piles surgery and was initially granted leave from February 22 to 28. However, when his wound did not heal, he approached the Railway Health Unit for an extension, which was allegedly refused by Chief Crew Controller (CCC) Ratan Kumar. Meena was forced to take extreme measures to prove his condition, showing his medical certificates, medicines, and the still-healing surgery wound to Kumar.
Broader Pattern of Employee Distress
Several online reactions suggest that mistreatment and leave denial are common across the railway system, not limited to loco pilots. AILRSA secretary general KC James called the behavior "shameful," noting that railway staff work round the clock to ensure trains run safely and families can travel during festivals.

AILRSA has demanded action against the officer involved, arguing that medical certificates should be adequate for determining leave eligibility and that no worker should be compelled to undress to prove a surgical condition. As of now, the Lucknow Division has not issued an official response to the allegations.
