Donald Trump Sees Good Chance of Iran Deal, Warns of Consequences if Strait of Hormuz Remains Closed
US-Iran Tensions Escalate as President Trump Warns of Military Action
US President Donald Trump stated on Sunday that there is a "good chance" of striking a deal with Iran by Monday, as he pressed Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face potential military action. Trump pointed to ongoing behind-the-scenes talks with Iranian officials, indicating that negotiations are currently underway.
The president warned of severe consequences if no agreement is reached within the deadline. He stated that if Iran fails to comply, he is considering taking control of the country's oil and warned that Americans would witness "bridges and power plants dropping all over their country" if the deadline is ignored. Trump's comments come amid heightened tensions in the region, with the Strait of Hormuz—a critical global shipping route—remaining effectively closed since US and Israeli strikes began more than a month ago.
In a series of remarks made during an interview with a Fox News journalist, Trump also made a striking claim about earlier unrest in Iran, alleging that the US had supplied weapons to demonstrators. He stated that "We sent guns to the protesters, a lot of them," and that "And I think the Kurds took the guns."

President Trump's comments were preceded by an expletive-filled post on his Truth Social platform, where he issued a fresh warning to Tehran. In the post, he stated that "Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!" He also wrote: "Open the Fuckin' Strait, you crazy bastards, or you'll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah."
Comparison of Strait of Hormuz Closure
| Date | Status of Strait of Hormuz |

| April 5, 2026 | Remaining effectively closed |
Separately, President Trump stated that he would address the media from the Oval Office on Monday, following a successful US military operation to rescue two pilots whose aircraft was downed in Iran on Friday.
