Charity Commissioner Halts Tata Trusts Board Meeting Amid Dispute
Tata Trusts Board Meeting Cancelled Amidst Ongoing Complains
A surprise intervention by Venu Srinivasan, vice-chairman of Tata Trusts, has led to the cancellation of the crucial board meeting of the trust scheduled to decide his continuation on the Tata Sons board.
The Maharashtra charity commissioner, Amogh S. Kaloti, issued a directive on Friday, stating that the board meeting scheduled for 16 May would not be held until the submission of the report of the Inspector inquiry. This decision was prompted by Srinivasan's complaint, which was received via email on 28 April, and is of a similar nature to the one made by lawyer Katyayani Agrawal.
According to an executive privy to the development, five of the six trustees of the Sir Ratan Tata Trust were caught off guard by the charity commissioner's directive. The complaint by Agrawal alleged that three members of the six-member Sir Ratan Tata Trust being permanent trustees, in alleged violation of the Maharashtra Public Trusts Rules.
The charity commissioner's letter stated that an Inspector inquiry into the complaints had already been ordered and a report of the inquiry is awaited. The letter also mentioned that Srinivasan's complaint was specifically addressed to the Charity Commissioner and that the issues highlighted by them are serious and require due consideration.
The cancellation of the board meeting comes at a sensitive time for Tata Trusts, which wanted to discuss Srinivasan's continued tenure as a Tata Trusts nominee on the Tata Sons board. The trust has been facing several complaints in the past month, including a complaint by Sunil Tulsiram Patilkhede, through his lawyer, Katyayani Agrawal, concerning an alleged wrongdoing in the transfer of shares from one of the trusts to late Ratan Tata's father in 1989.

| Sunil Tulsiram Patilkhede | May | Alleged wrongdoing in the transfer of shares in 1989 |
