CBSE Math Paper Controversy Sparks Online Backlash: YouTube Shares QR Code for Students
YouTube India Surprises Social Media with Rick Astley QR Code Prank
On March 14, 2026, YouTube India shared a QR code on X, claiming it linked to a "must watch video for students preparing for exams." However, scanning the code redirected viewers to Rick Astley's 1987 hit song 'Never Gonna Give You Up,' a video that previously went viral after appearing in the CBSE Class 12 Mathematics exam.
This move is seen as a jab at the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which had faced criticism for the same incident on March 9, 2026. The CBSE Class 12 Mathematics examination was conducted across India, with a QR code printed on the front page of some question papers redirecting students to the Rick Astley music video instead of exam-related content.
The incident quickly drew attention online, with photos and videos of the question paper circulating on social media platforms. In response, the CBSE issued a statement reassuring students and parents that the QR code did not compromise exam security. The board confirmed that the papers were authentic and safe for use.
