Motorist Clarifies Dramatic Protest Against Zero-Traffic Arrangement for Karnataka Governor's Convoy
Bengaluru motorist Mohit has issued a detailed clarification regarding his dramatic protest against a zero-traffic arrangement for Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot's convoy, which went viral on social media. In a statement shared online, Mohit stated that several facts about the incident were reported incorrectly and that his pregnant wife was not traveling with him at the time.
According to Mohit, he was driving alone on Old Airport Road and was rushing home to pick up his wife, who is in the final days of her pregnancy and needed to be taken for urgent medical reasons. On the day of the incident, Mohit reached the ISRO Junction and waited to take a U-turn, but encountered unusually long delays due to ongoing public works. A large section of the junction is currently affected, with traffic being routed through the remaining carriageway.
Mohit claimed that vehicles moving straight ahead were being allowed to pass, while those waiting for the U-turn remained stopped. What initially appeared to be a routine signal cycle soon turned into an extended wait, with nearly 15 minutes passing before only a handful of vehicles had been allowed through before traffic was halted again. After waiting for several more minutes, Mohit approached a traffic police officer to understand the reason for the delay, who allegedly informed him that traffic had been stopped due to VVIP movement and that Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot's convoy was expected to pass through the area.

The prolonged wait, combined with concern for his wife, left Mohit frustrated and anxious. He acknowledged that the frustration ultimately led to the actions seen in the viral videos circulating online. Mohit stressed that he holds no grievance against the traffic police personnel on duty, stating that the officer present was simply carrying out his assigned responsibilities. Instead, he argued that the larger issue is whether prolonged traffic stoppages and traffic-free corridors for VIP and VVIP movements remain justified, especially when they disrupt thousands of commuters.
| Traffic Situation | Time | Number of Vehicles Allowed Through |
|---|---|---|
| Initial Signal Cycle | 5 minutes | All vehicles were cleared |
| Extended Wait | 15 minutes | Only a handful of vehicles were allowed through |
| Subsequent Wait | Several minutes | Traffic was halted again |
Mohit also sought to reassure well-wishers, stating that both he and his wife are safe and doing well, while thanking people for the support and messages he received after the incident gained national attention. The clarification comes a day after high drama unfolded on Old Airport Road when Mohit stepped out of his vehicle and sat in the middle of the road after traffic was halted for the Governor's convoy.
