
Banks' Operating Hours for Ambedkar Jayanti, Vishu, and Baisakhi: State-Wise List for April 14
Bank Branches Closed Across Much of India on Ambedkar Jayanti
Bank branches across much of India will remain closed today, April 14, 2026, as per the RBI's holiday schedule under the Negotiable Instruments Act. This closure affects bank branches in several major cities, including Agartala, Ahmedabad, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji, Patna, Ranchi, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada.
However, a few locations will continue to operate, including Aizawl, Bhopal, Itanagar, Kohima, New Delhi, Raipur, Shillong and Shimla, in line with the RBI calendar.
Ambedkar Jayanti, observed this year on a Tuesday, marks the birth anniversary of B. R. Ambedkar. The day coincides with several regional festivals, including Maha Vishuva Sankranti, Biju, Buisu Festival, Tamil New Year's Day, Bohag Bihu, Cheiraoba and Baisakhi, all of which are celebrated with public gatherings and events.

Government offices, public sector undertakings, courts, and state-run educational institutions will also remain shut in many regions. Equity markets, including National Stock Exchange of India and Bombay Stock Exchange, will not operate for the day.
Despite the closure of physical branches, digital banking services will function as usual. Customers can access internet and mobile banking, along with SMS and WhatsApp banking platforms. Regular banking operations will resume on the next working day after the holiday.
