Annual Domestic Travel Insurance Plans Introduced with Key Exclusions to Consider
Annual Domestic Travel Insurance Plan Launched by Policybazaar
Domestic travellers can now benefit from an annual travel insurance plan, designed for frequent trips, offering year-round coverage and covering multiple journeys by air, train, bus, and road, eliminating the need to buy separate insurance for every trip.
The launch comes at a time when domestic travel continues to rise amid the West Asia war, with consumers increasingly travelling across cities for work, leisure, or short getaways, according to Policybazaar. Unlike single-trip travel covers, the annual domestic travel insurance plan provides protection for multiple journeys throughout the year, thus eliminating the need to purchase separate coverage for every trip.
Policybazaar Aims to Make Travel Protection More Accessible
Travel risks in India are often more associated with international travel. However, domestic journeys today are more frequent than ever, whether for work, family, or leisure, and can be equally prone to risks. With annual domestic travel insurance, Policybazaar is looking to make protection more accessible and relevant for travellers closer to home through a simple and affordable solution.
Key Features of the Annual Domestic Travel Insurance Plan
The plan offers protection against a range of travel-related uncertainties and emergencies, including:
| Feature | Maximum Coverage |
|---|---|
| Personal Accident Cover | Up to Rs 3 lakh |
| Hospitalisation Coverage | Up to Rs 1 lakh during travel |
| Loss of Checked-in Baggage | Compensation for loss |
| Trip Cancellations | Support for unexpected changes in plans |

The plan extends protection to medical emergencies during travel and to select home-related risks, including burglary while the policyholder is away.
Annual Premium and Target Audience
The annual premium starts from approximately Rs 1,500 a member. The offering is aimed at frequent domestic flyers, business travellers, families, regular commuters, and those who take multiple trips during the year.
Policy Exclusions
Domestic travel insurance policies usually come with several exclusions that travellers should read carefully before purchasing. Pre-existing diseases and existing disabilities are generally not covered under the policy. Claims arising due to war, military action, rebellion, or similar situations are also excluded. Insurers typically do not pay for injuries or accidents that occur while the insured person is under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Adventure sports activities are usually excluded unless the traveller buys a specific add-on cover. In addition, cosmetic or experimental treatments are not covered, and any medical treatment taken outside India is also excluded from the policy coverage.
