Tragedy at Amazon Distribution Centre in Oregon

A shocking incident has occurred at the Amazon distribution centre in Troutdale, Oregon, where an employee allegedly died at work, going unnoticed for a significant period. According to a report by The Western Edge, the worker collapsed on the floor at the PDX9 warehouse last week and reportedly lay unattended for over an hour while others continued working around him.

Details of the Incident

The man, believed to be 46 years old, was found dead on Monday, 6 April. Workers were allegedly instructed to continue operations for more than an hour after the incident, with some employees continuing to fetch totes, pick items off shelves, and load packages onto trucks while the man's body remained on the floor. Top managers did not halt operations immediately following the incident.

Cause of Death Unknown

The exact cause of death remains unknown. Paramedics later arrived at the facility, and the section of the warehouse where the incident occurred was subsequently closed off.

Concerns Among Employees

The death has left employees at the facility concerned about their health and safety. One employee reportedly struggled to sleep and had anxiety about walking back into the building. Several people on Reddit debated what could have caused the incident, with some discussing multiple injuries reported in the facility and others claiming that the building had become unusually hot.

Amazon's Response

A spokesperson from Amazon confirmed the incident and expressed condolences to the family and employees affected. Sam Stephenson stated, "We're deeply saddened by the passing of a member of our team, and our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with their loved ones during this difficult time." Amazon has provided on-site grief counsellors and additional support to employees at the PDX9 facility.

Investigation and Support

Amazon has been in touch with the man's family and has provided resources to support them. The Multnomah County Sheriff's Department and local emergency medical services have also been involved in the incident.
