Amazon India to Expand Rest Facilities for Delivery Associates to 250 Across Key Cities
Amazon Expands 'Ashray' Centres Across India Amid Heatwave Concerns
Amazon has announced plans to expand its network of 'Ashray' centres, dedicated rest stops for delivery associates, across major cities in India. By the end of this year, the company aims to establish 250 Ashray centres nationwide, with a target of launching 50 new centres by the end of May.
The expansion comes amid warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) of hotter-than-usual temperatures between May and June, with more heatwave days expected in central and eastern India as well as the northwestern plains. Currently, Amazon operates over 100 Ashray centres across 16 Indian cities.
Facilities at Ashray Centres
Ashray centres are designed to provide delivery drivers with a place to rest and recharge during their routes, particularly during the peak summer months. The centres are equipped with air-conditioned seating, drinking water, electrolytes, mobile charging points, clean washrooms, first-aid kits, and comfortable resting spaces. These facilities are available to all delivery drivers, including those outside Amazon's delivery network.
| City | Current Ashray Centres | New Ashray Centres |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi NCR | 15 | 10 |
| Mumbai | 10 | 5 |
| Bengaluru | 8 | 4 |
| Chennai | 5 | 3 |
| Other Cities | 62 | 28 |
According to Amazon, the existing 100 centres have recorded over one million visits from delivery drivers across the industry in 2025. The company has also rolled out mobile 'Ashray' units – air-conditioned vans stationed along high-traffic delivery routes so that drivers can access rest and hydration support without travelling to a fixed location.

In a separate announcement, Amazon India had announced the strategic merger of Amazon MX Player and Prime Video, creating a single, comprehensive streaming platform. The merger aims to offer a centralised hub for Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD), Advertising Video on Demand (AVOD), Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD), and various add-on subscriptions.
