Adani Power Expands into Nuclear Energy Sector
Adani Power, a leading energy company, has taken a significant step into the nuclear energy sector by incorporating a step-down subsidiary. The new entity, Rawatbhata-Raj Atomic Energy Limited (RRAEL), will be engaged in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity derived from nuclear sources.
According to an exchange filing on Monday, Adani Power's wholly-owned subsidiary Adani Atomic Energy Limited (AAEL) has incorporated RRAEL on April 20, 2026. The move comes as the Indian government aims to reach 100 GW of nuclear energy capacity by 2047 and has made legislative changes to encourage private players' participation in the sector.
India's current nuclear energy capacity stands in the range of 8-9 GW, presenting a significant opportunity for private entities to invest in the sector. Apart from Adani Power, several other companies, including Tata Power and Naveen Jindal Group, have announced plans to invest in nuclear energy.
