
Accused in Jammu Wedding Firing Case Reveals Motivation for Attempted Homicide Against Farooq Abdullah
National Conference President Farooq Abdullah Survives Assassination Attempt
On Wednesday night, Farooq Abdullah, the president of the National Conference, narrowly escaped a deadly attack when a gunman opened fire at him while he was leaving a marriage function in Jammu. Abdullah was accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary and Advisor to CM Omar Abdullah, Nasir Aslam Wani.
The incident occurred at the Royal Park in Greater Kailash, Jammu, where Abdullah had attended a marriage ceremony. The accused, Kamal Singh Jamwal, a 63-year-old resident of Purani Mandi in Jammu, has been taken into custody. Police seized a pistol from his possession, which he claimed was his own, issued to him.
During questioning, Jamwal revealed that he had been waiting for an opportunity to target Abdullah for the past 20 years, driven by a personal agenda. However, he was reportedly intoxicated at the time of the attack and was overpowered by security personnel.

Omar Abdullah, the son of the targeted individual and advisor to the Chief Minister, reacted to the incident, stating that his father had a close call. The security team's swift action deflected the shot, ensuring that the assassination attempt failed. An investigation is underway to determine how the attacker was able to get close to Abdullah, who was under Z+ NSG protection.
