Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (Z) has confirmed that it is in talks with Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) to secure the broadcasting rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in India. The development was announced on Tuesday, alongside the news of four new sports channels set to be launched by Zee Entertainment Enterprises.
The announcement comes at a time when speculation over the premier football event broadcast rights in the Indian sports broadcasting market has been heightened. With the tournament just under three weeks away from kickoff, the news is a welcome relief for many football fans in the country.
As part of its efforts to build a competitive sports content offering, Zee Entertainment Enterprises is also in talks with FIFA to broadcast and stream the 2026 FIFA World Cup matches in India. The company has stated that its aim is to provide a comprehensive sports content offering to its viewers.

Earlier, former All India Football Federation (AIFF) secretary Shaji Prabhakaran had hinted at the FIFA World Cup 2026's broadcasting partners in India without naming anyone. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Prabhakaran stated that after months of uncertainty, fans can finally relax, as the World Cup will be fully accessible in India.
To further enhance its presence across the sports broadcasting ecosystem, Zee Entertainment Enterprises will be launching four dedicated sports channels: Unite8 Sports 1, Unite8 Sports 1 HD in Hindi, and Unite8 Sports 2, Unite8 Sports 2 HD in English. These channels will offer a range of sports content, including football, kabaddi, cricket, badminton, wrestling, boxing, and combat sports.

The company has also appointed Bavesh Janavlekar as the Chief Business Officer of Unite8 Sports channels. Speaking about the development, Janavlekar stated that there is a rising demand for sports that are global in appeal yet rooted within the heartland of India. He added that building a robust presence in the linear ecosystem with four channels aligns with the company's broader strategy of diversifying the content portfolio and building scalable, value-accretive businesses.
