Indices and Market Performance

The Sensex and Nifty 50 indices experienced a significant decline of almost 3% each in intraday trade on Monday, March 23, due to escalating tensions in West Asia, rising crude oil prices, a record low rupee value, and heavy selling by foreign portfolio investors. The Nifty 50 dropped to near 22,500 during the session.

The following stocks were among the most active on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) in terms of volume:

  • Vodafone Idea: 33 crore shares changed hands as the stock declined more than 5% after a 4% rise in the previous session following a decline in mobile subscribers.
  • Tata Silver Exchange Traded Fund: 18 crore shares changed hands as the stock crashed 13% amid a 10% fall in silver prices on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX).
  • Tata Gold Exchange Traded Fund: 13 crore shares changed hands as the ETF crashed over 8% amid an 8% fall in MCX gold prices.
  • Jaiprakash Power Ventures: 10 crore shares changed hands as the stock declined 10% after the National Company Law Tribunal approved Adani Enterprises' resolution plan.
  • YES Bank: 7 crore shares changed hands as the bank's shares declined more than 4% in intraday trade.

Company Updates

  • Vodafone Idea: The company's mobile subscribers fell by 4,11,337 users in January, bringing its total user base down to 19,83,59,969 from 19,87,71,306 in December 2025.
  • YES Bank: The bank's paid-up share capital increased from ₹62,759,261,614 to ₹62,759,514,114 following the allotment of 1,26,250 shares under various employee stock option plans.
