Uttar Pradesh Government Initiates GPS-Based Sugarcane Crop Survey to Enhance Farmer Support
Uttar Pradesh Government Launches GPS-Based Survey of Sugarcane Crops
The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a GPS-based survey of sugarcane crops across the state, set to take place from May 1 to June 30 for the 2026-27 crushing season. The survey has been initiated by the Cane Development and Sugar Industry Department at the direction of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The survey aims to ensure transparency and accuracy in data collection. According to an official statement, all registered sugarcane farmers will receive SMS notifications three days prior to the survey, informing them of the scheduled date and time. Each survey team will comprise a government cane supervisor and a representative of a sugar mill, who will undergo special training before the exercise begins.
Farmers' presence in the field during the survey will be mandatory. The teams will record details such as land area, cane variety, and estimated production using GPS, and upload the data directly to the department's server.
The survey process will also enable farmers to verify their surveyed land on the revenue department's website. Sugar mills will be required to upload final data on the departmental portal and display it on their websites, ensuring transparency.
The registration of new sugarcane farmers will also be carried out during the survey. Only those registered by September 30, 2026, will be eligible to supply sugarcane. Additionally, applications for yield enhancement measures will be accepted till September 30. A nominal fee will be charged from farmers, with rates as follows:
| Category | Fee |
|---|---|
| Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe farmers | Rs 10 |
| Small farmers | Rs 100 |
| Others | Rs 200 |
The GPS-based survey is expected to prevent data manipulation, enable accurate estimation of production, and ensure timely payment to farmers. Officials have been directed to carry out the survey with full transparency and accuracy.
