US President Trump Indicates Progress in Iran Negotiations, Cites Conditions for Agreement
US-Iran Talks: Progress Made Towards Ending War, Final Agreement in Sight
President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that negotiations between the United States and Iran were nearing a final agreement to bring an end to the ongoing conflict. According to an interview with CBS News, Trump stated that a final agreement would prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and ensure that the country's enriched uranium would be "satisfactorily handled."
The latest developments come as the United States, Iran, and mediator Pakistan reported progress in talks aimed at ending almost three months of war. Trump indicated that he would discuss the latest draft agreement with his advisers on Saturday and may make a decision on whether to resume the war by Sunday.
The talks have been ongoing since a ceasefire was declared six weeks ago to allow the sides to come to agreement on Iran's nuclear program and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical oil and gas supply route controlled by Tehran. Trump has consistently maintained a hardline stance, stating that he would only sign a deal where the US "gets everything we want."
