Trump-Backed 'Made in America' Smartphone Released After Years of Delay
Trump Mobile Begins Shipping T1 Smartphones to US Customers
Trump Mobile, a wireless venture linked to the Trump Organization, has started shipping its long-delayed T1 smartphones to customers in the United States. The gold-colored handset was originally scheduled for release in August 2023, but was pushed back nearly nine months due to additional testing and quality checks.
The T1 phone, priced at USD499 or approximately Rs 47,000, was marketed as an American-made smartphone and became a high-profile symbol of Donald Trump's push for domestic manufacturing and economic nationalism. The device features a Snapdragon 7 series processor, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage, a triple camera setup, and a 5,000 Mah battery.
The manufacturing of the T1 phone has been a subject of controversy, with technology experts questioning whether a low-cost smartphone could be realistically manufactured entirely in the US. Despite earlier claims that the phones would be fully built in America, the company confirmed that the first devices are being assembled in the United States.

Trump Mobile chief executive Pat O'Brien attributed the delay to the company's commitment to completing additional testing and quality checks before shipping the phones. The company also operates a wireless service called "The 47 Plan," priced at USD47.45 per month, a reference to Trump's service as both the 45th and 47th US president.
The T1 phone's preorder process faced mounting pressure in recent months after repeated delays and changes to its preorder terms. Some customers became frustrated after paying deposits of USD100 without receiving clear delivery timelines. Critics, including lawmakers and consumer advocates, raised concerns about transparency and marketing claims surrounding the device.
