Tech Mahindra Denies Reports of 30,000 Layoffs, Calls Rumours Unfounded
Tech Mahindra Dismisses Rumors of Mass Layoffs
Tech Mahindra Ltd. has issued a clarification on Monday through an exchange filing, refuting rumors circulating on social media about large-scale layoffs. The IT services company categorically denies any market rumors suggesting a major reduction in its workforce.
The clarification follows several social media posts suggesting that Tech Mahindra could reduce its workforce significantly, with some estimates as high as 30,000 employees being laid off. These claims were allegedly linked to the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) across the technology sector. However, Tech Mahindra did not comment on specific social media posts but stated that the reports about a planned headcount reduction are false.
According to Tech Mahindra's latest quarterly disclosures, the company employs 1.5 lakh people globally, and the overall workforce size has remained broadly stable in recent quarters. The management had earlier stated that while the company is not undertaking layoffs, it is focusing on improving productivity in fixed-price projects by redeploying employees from completed or lower-utilisation projects into new assignments.

The clarification comes as Tech Mahindra increases its investments in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation. The company recently announced a collaboration with Microsoft to launch an ontology-driven Agentic AI platform, aimed at accelerating telecom and enterprise data modernisation. This initiative is part of Tech Mahindra's broader push to integrate AI capabilities into enterprise services and telecom solutions. Despite the growing focus on AI adoption, the company stated that no proposal for mass layoffs is currently under consideration.
Investor Takeaway
Investors should not be concerned about potential layoffs at Tech Mahindra based on unfounded rumors.
