Tata Trusts Announce Changes to TEDT Trusteeship: Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh to Step Down on May 10
Tata Trusts Trustees Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh to Step Down
Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh's tenures as trustees of the Tata Education and Development Trust (TEDT) are set to come to an end on May 10, following the failure of their reappointment proposals to secure unanimous approval from trustees. According to communications reviewed by Moneycontrol, the reappointment circulars concerning Srinivasan and Singh did not pass due to the requirement of unanimity under the Maharashtra Public Trusts Act, 1950.
Tata Trusts' executive director and chief executive officer, Siddharth Sharma, sent separate emails to TEDT trustees on Wednesday morning. In the communications, Sharma explained that Mehli Mistry's decision on the reappointment of Srinivasan and Singh, as well as their subsequent emails, were attached for perusal. He noted that the reappointment circulars No. 444 dated 3rd May 2026 and No. 443 dated 3 May 2026 had not passed due to the requirement of unanimity imposed by the Maharashtra Public Trusts Act, 1950.
As a result, Srinivasan's and Singh's tenures as trustees of TEDT will come to an end on May 10, 2026. The communications also expressed appreciation for the services rendered by Srinivasan and Singh during their tenure as trustees of TEDT.

This development marks a fresh escalation in the internal differences within Tata Trusts, which controls Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata group. The Tata Education and Development Trust is among the more prominent trusts within the Tata Trusts network, managing a corpus of over ₹5,000 crore. The trust focuses on education-led philanthropic initiatives, including scholarship programmes.
| Trustee | Reappointment Circular | Date | Outcome |
|---|---|---|---|
| Venu Srinivasan | No. 444 | 3rd May 2026 | Not passed |
| Vijay Singh | No. 443 | 3 May 2026 | Not passed |
The latest development comes ahead of Tata Trusts' May 8 meeting, where the Trusts' representation on the Tata Sons board is expected to be reviewed. Moneycontrol had earlier reported that the possible induction of Bhaskar Bhat, former managing director of Titan Company and a recent inductee to the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, to the Tata Sons board is under consideration as part of a broader review of Trusts nominee directors.
Srinivasan currently serves as vice-chairman of Tata Trusts and is also a nominee director of Tata Trusts on the board of Tata Sons. Vijay Singh is also a vice-chairman of Tata Trusts. It remains unclear whether their exit from TEDT will have any bearing on those positions.
