Indian Stock Market Swings Amid Global Uncertainty

On Wednesday, 13 May, the Indian stock market benchmarks, the Sensex and the Nifty 50, experienced a volatile session, with the Sensex swinging more than 800 points during the session. The Nifty 50 touched an intraday high of 23,510 and a low of 23,263, respectively, until 11:45 am.

The market's performance was influenced by mixed global cues and a decline in crude oil prices. The ongoing talks between the US and Iran remaining stalled have heightened concerns about the West Asia crisis, leading to a negative impact on India's macros. According to VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments, the downside risk to India's growth and upside risk to inflation have increased, resulting in negative implications for the markets.

The Nifty 50 has a key resistance level of 23,500, as identified by Shrikant Chouhan, the head of equity research at Kotak Securities. If the Nifty 50 breaks below this level, a correction continuation pattern could extend to 23,250-23,150. However, if it manages to surpass 23,500, a pullback move could extend to 23,600-25,650.
