Prime Minister's Austerity Appeal Has Ripple Effect: CREDAI Relocates NATCON 2026 from Amsterdam to India
CREDAI Shifting 2026 NATCON Convention from Amsterdam to India
The Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (CREDAI) has announced a significant change in plans for its annual convention, NATCON 2026. The event, which was initially scheduled to take place in Amsterdam, will now be hosted in India. This decision was made in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent appeal to reduce non-essential foreign travel and support domestic economic activity amid rising geopolitical tensions in West Asia.
According to CREDAI, the decision was taken in line with the government's broader call for conserving foreign exchange, reducing fuel consumption, and prioritizing spending within the country during a period of global uncertainty. The real estate developers' body stated that it will announce the new Indian host city for NATCON 2026 and revised programme details at a later stage.
NATCON is the CREDAI's flagship annual convention, typically attracting over 1,000 participants, including real estate developers, investors, architects, consultants, policymakers, and other industry stakeholders. The event has traditionally been organized at overseas destinations.

The decision comes amid concerns over elevated crude oil prices and their potential impact on India's import bill and foreign exchange reserves. In recent weeks, the Prime Minister has urged citizens and industries to adopt fuel-saving measures and avoid non-essential expenditure abroad as part of broader economic resilience efforts.
Shekhar Patel, commenting on the move, stated that the industry body considered it essential to align with the government's appeal and prevailing national sentiment. He emphasized that at a time when the Prime Minister has called upon citizens and industries to act responsibly and prioritize national interest amid the evolving geopolitical situation, CREDAI believes it is crucial for the real estate sector to align with this vision and demonstrate collective responsibility during this important time for the nation.
The real estate sector is currently facing pressures from rising construction costs, including higher prices of cement, steel, and other raw materials, along with labor shortages affecting project execution across markets.
