OpenAI Grants Greg Brockman Increased Autonomy, Shakes Up Leadership Amidst Report of ChatGPT Head Reassignment
OpenAI Restructures Amid Ongoing Trial with Elon Musk
In a significant move, OpenAI has announced a fresh reorganization within the company, amidst the ongoing trial with Elon Musk over the company's shift from its original non-profit mission. The restructuring comes as a response to Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI co-founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, alleging that they misled him about the company's intentions and transformed it into a for-profit entity that generated enormous wealth for everyone except him.
New Leadership Roles Emerge
Under the new restructuring, Greg Brockman, OpenAI President, has been given more control at the company and will now lead product strategy, in addition to his ongoing work on AI infrastructure. Brockman's new role is a result of his earlier assignment to oversee OpenAI products while the company's CEO of AGI deployment was on medical leave. "We're consolidating our product efforts to execute with maximum focus toward the agentic future, to win across both consumer and enterprise," Brockman stated in an internal memo.

Other significant changes include Thibault Sottiaux taking the lead of OpenAI's core product and platform team, and overseeing the company's work on the upcoming 'super app' combining Codex, ChatGPT, and Atlas browser on desktop. Nick Turley is moving into a new position as the head of OpenAI's enterprise products, while Ashley Alexander will lead the consumer product unit. Vijaye Raji is being assigned to work on core infrastructure, ads, data science, and growth.
Shift in Focus and Business Operations
As part of the company's shift towards focusing on key areas of revenue like coding and enterprise users, OpenAI is also consolidating its business operations. Jason Kwon, CSK, Sarah Friar, CFO, and Denise Dresser, CRO, will be taking control of the company's business operations. The new shakeup is a part of the company's efforts to stop the outflow of money on 'side quests' ahead of the potential IPO this year. Notably, the company has shut down its Sora AI video generation model and an accompanying app, and has started working on the new super app and launched the OpenAI Deployment Company for AI consulting and implementation services sector.
