Air India Express Aircraft Grounded After Incident at Muscat Airport
Oman Transport Safety Bureau (OTSB) is investigating an incident involving an Air India Express aircraft that occurred on the night of May 15 at Muscat airport. According to sources, the plane, a Boeing 737-800 NG, registration VT-AXR, was attempting to take off for Kannur in Kerala when it hit and damaged runway edge lights during the take-off roll.
The incident led to the take-off being aborted, and the aircraft is currently grounded at Muscat. The two pilots who were in the cockpit at the time of the incident have been derostered pending investigation. An accredited representative from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is part of the probe being conducted by the OTSB.
The sources stated that the runway edge lights were damaged as the aircraft was reportedly not aligned with the centre of the runway. In a statement on Monday, an Air India Express spokesperson confirmed that the airline is actively engaging with the OTSB to investigate the incident.
